Ottawa has loads of beaches for hanging out, picnicking and swimming. Check out these 10 popular ones:

O'Brien Beach, on the shores of Gatineau Park's Lac Meech, is a sandy beach. Petrie Island has 2 large sandy beaches at the east end in Orleans. Parking is $2 for 5 hrs from Victoria Day to Labour Day. The Pond is in Rockcliffe Park and is open to the public 7am to 2pm (summer). It is patrolled so don’t swim any other times at this beach on the Ottawa side of the river. Britannia Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches on the Ottawa River on Ottawa’s west side - this long sandy beach is great for a picnic too. Mooney's Bay is a walk from Carleton University and is a fave of students. La Pêche Lake is Gatineau Park’s westernmost public on the middle of La Pêche Lake. It has public toilets, change rooms and picnic tables. Westboro Beach, found on the Sir John A. MacDonald bike path, makes it a great place to stop if you’re exploring by bike. Leamy Lake beach, in Gatineau near Hull is a great beach with volleyball courts. Fitzroy Provincial Park is a secluded beachside on the Ontario side of the Ottawa River, about an hour from Ottawa, with campgrounds right there if you want to overnight. Breton Beach the largest of three beaches on Lac Phillipe and has canoe and kayak rentals as well as swimming, and also has picnic tables, public toilets and change rooms.
