We’re so lucky to live in Canada where we can enjoy personal freedoms that many people around the world only dream of. Our military works tirelessly with tremendous personal sacrifice to support our country, our freedom & values.  We’d like to honour our men & women in uniform, by highlighting some of the incredible places around the province that educate & illuminate their visitors about our rich military history & tradition.

What could be better than a visit to Ottawa to learn all about our rich military history?  Start off your Canadian historical tour at the Canadian War Museum where you will learn all about Canada’s complete historical military experience.  A trip to Ottawa wouldn’t be complete without a tour of Canada’s parliament buildings. For a glimpse into the pomp & ceremony of an age-old Canadian tradition, stop by to watch the Changing of the Guard ceremony. The ceremony takes place every morning in the summer at 10am (from late June until the end of August.)  In Petawawa, you can visit the CFB Petawawa Military Museums which encompass the Canadian Airborne Forces Museum & the Garrison Petawawa Military Museum.
Ever wonder what life was like in the 19th century?  A visit to the Battlefield House in Stoney Creek will take you back in time. Visit on the weekend of June 6 & 7, 2015 to take in the annual Re-enactment of the Battle of Stoney Creek and experience the life of the townspeople & soldiers during this important turning point in the War of 1812.  In Brantford, Ontario, the Canadian Military Heritage Museum  has artifacts dating from the War of 1812 to the present including Canadian peacekeeping operations.  Right at the Hamilton International Airport, you will find the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum where you can see an incredible collection of aircraft & related aviation artifacts from WWII to the present.

HMCS Haida National Historic Site
The HMCS Haida, docked in Hamilton, Ontario, is Canada’s most decorated warship. In 1943, this Tribal Class destroyer ship began its career escorting convoys from a British naval port and then continued to serve through many subsequent wars. In 1963, the ship was turned into a living memorial to honour all those who served and continue to serve in the Canadian navy.
