If you love visiting wild animals, a trip to the Bowmanville Zoo is a must! It's small and manageable for a day trip but large enough to please everyone. See Limba the elephant, Nilgai, the Asian antelope, deer, giraffes, yaks, zebras, Malayan tapir and many other animals. There are also rides for kids, animal shows and a splash pad. Check the website for a “Free Kid Pass”

For the serious birdwatcher, the Mountsberg Conservation Area is a great destination! Waterfowl and shorebirds gather around the misty lake while hundreds of warblers fly through the forests. There are beautiful hikes to enjoy as well as a year-round bird show.  Who knows – you may even meet up with a great horned owl!

Located 10 minutes north of Niagara Falls is the amazing Niagara Parks Butterfly Conservatory. Take a self-guided walking tour through the lush, tropical rainforest setting and experience 2,000 butterflies flying around you. There are over 45 different species of these beautiful creatures in the conservatory.

If reptiles and amphibians are your thing, then Little Ray’s Reptile Zoo would be the place for you.  This zoo can proudly claim to be Canada’s biggest and most diverse reptile and amphibian rescue. With over 150 animals on display including giant pythons, huge alligators, cobras, rattlesnakes, tarantulas, birds of prey and more, it’ll be an experience unlike any other!

Alpaca farms are a relatively new and quite unique import to Canada. Alpacas are originally from South America but came to Canada in 1988. They are known for their gentle nature and luxurious, warm and durable fleece. A visit to the Salem Alpaca Farm will give you a first hand experience with these beautiful creatures on this picturesque 25 acre farm.

Located in the beautiful Bonnechere Valley, this family-run farm started as a small hobby farm but opened its doors to the public in 2006. There are plenty of furry and feathered animals as well as scaly creatures to see at this small zoo including sheep, llamas, hedgehogs, emu, American alligator, Chinese water dragon, turtles and more!
