With New Year’s resolutions still fresh in our minds, have you resolved to bring more culture into your life?  That’s my goal and I’m starting with a trip to an art gallery!  There’s always something new to see, workshops to attend and classes to take at your local art gallery.  And who knows what hidden talents you might uncover?

This gallery, located in the heart of the historic village of Unionville, is named after Fred Varley, one of the founding members of the Group of Seven, Canada’s infamous landscape artists.  Art lovers will enjoy the permanent collections as well as the many changing exhibitions, art classes, workshops, camps, school programs and special events.
The Thunder Bay Art Gallery is a unique entity as it is the only public gallery facility in the region.  It proudly collects and exhibits the works of contemporary First Nations artists as well as the work of local and regional talent.  There’s always something new to see and do at the Gallery with new exhibitions every six weeks and many classes and workshops to choose from.

The OAG has grown over the years from a small venue meant to represent the local artistic community to the now impressive permanent collection including the Firestone Collection of Canadian Art, which has over 1,600 works of art.  The OAG continues to grow and expand and houses constantly changing exhibits, workshops, summer camps, educational programs & classes and many other events.

The AGO, one of the crown jewels of the Ontario art scene, is housed in the beautiful Frank Gehry redesigned building.  Walking through the gallery is like walking through an art piece itself.  But the building is not the only draw – come and see the impressive permanent international art collection, the ever-changing exhibits or come for one of the many learning opportunities and events.
The MacLaren Art Centre is a vital and active presence in the local Barrie community.  With a real aim to appealing to children and youth, there are many different classes, programs and camps to draw kids into the world of art.  The Art Centre also runs many incredible events and fundraisers like “Battle of the Bands,” “MacLaren TV Bingo” and more!
