A sure sign of spring in Ontario is that sap starts to drip from the maple trees and we know that delicious maple syrup won’t be far behind.  All over Ontario, you can visit a sugar bush & discover the secrets of this famous Canadian delicacy.  Maple syrup season usually runs from early March until late April, but contact your local farm or sugar bush to see if the sap is running & if they’re open for visits.

Ontario’s Lake Country is home to so many incredible maple syrup producers that the region has actually created a “tap into Maple” route that you can follow to tour the maple producers of the area.  Included on the route are all things maple, including Shaw’s Catering & Maple Syrup.  The region is also home to Breedon’s Maple Syrup, McCutcheon’s Maple Syrup and Brooklands Farm.
Those living in the GTA don’t have to go far for their maple ‘fix’.  Check out Kortright Centre to taste syrup straight from the tree, see how Maple Syrup is made and enjoy sweet treats. Visit Pefferlaw Creek Farms, a family-run operation or Horton Tree Farms, where you can tour the farm & sample the syrup. Enjoy the Maple Festival & kids' activities at Brooks Farms or visit Mountsberg’s Sugar Bush which has been producing maple syrup for almost 150 years.

The lush Ottawa Valley & Madawaska Valley are regions ripe with maple syrup.  There are so many sugar bushes to visit & sweet syrup to sample. In the heart of the Madawaska Valley you can visit Madawaska Maple Products. At Sand Road Maple Farm in Moosecreek, Ontario, you can have a traditional Canadian sugar camp experience where you’ll learn about the sugar making process & even enjoy a horse drawn wagon ride on weekends.  Near Ottawa, there’s Thompsontown Maple Products and Proulx Farm.

Did you know that not only is maple syrup delicious, especially over a stack of pancakes, but it also has a lot of health benefits?  It’s a good source of potassium, calcium & magnesium & even contains fewer calories per serving than honey, brown sugar or corn syrup. So stock up on maple syrup from your favourite producer & Enjoy!!
