Have you ever wanted to explore the beauty & majesty of Aboriginal culture?  Here are just a few of the amazing ways to get a glimpse into Aboriginal life. Great Spirit Circle Trail in the Manitoulin Island region has amazing tour packages to explore many different aspects of Aboriginal life, from food & drink to exploring the area by land or lake.   If you’ve ever wanted to see a traditional First Nations Pow Wow, pencil the third weekend of August into your calendar.  The Algonquins of Pikwàkanagàn welcome drummers, dancers & visitors to their annual traditional Pow Wow.  You can also visit the Annual Three Fires Homecoming Pow Wow.  Near Brantford, Ontario is Six Nations of the Grand River Territory, the largest Aboriginal community in Canada; they hold the famous Grand River Champion of Champions Pow-wow in July and an end of the summer ‘Six Nations Fall Fair’. Aboriginal Experiences, in the Heart of Ottawa, offers programs in the spring & summer to large groups (of 25 or more) to learn about Aboriginal culture.
The more I learn about the food industry in Ontario, the more incredible I realize it is!  Here are some fabulous foodie excursions. Prince Edward County is becoming internationally renown for its wonderful food & wine. Check out the Taste Trail in Prince Edward County to sample some of their delicacies. In the Bay of Quinte area, there’s the Cheddar & Ale Trail. September is the time to forage for mushrooms (nothing like planning ahead) & Long Point Eco Adventure will take you on an outing into the Carolinian forests as you hunt for mushrooms. Upon your return, a delicious meal will be created using what you’ve gathered. Upon your return, a delicious meal will be created using what you’ve gathered, paired with local wine. Of course, we can’t forget the wonderful & unique culinary tours offered by Foodies on Foot  & the Culinary Adventure Company. And finally, did you know that Ottawa has the only Cordon Bleu Cooking School in Canada?  Brag to your friends that you’re a Cordon Bleu trained chef by taking one of their cooking workshops.

According to National Geographic, Algonquin Park is a must-see destination in Ontario.  Here are some really cool ways to experience this amazing provincial park.  Plan ahead to go moose watching next spring – it’s an incredible way to observe the largest mammal in Canada. Voyageur Quest also has moose watching safaris; they also have a log cabin adventure where you stay in the comforts of a log cabin in beautiful Algonquin park and enjoy guided tours of all the beauty of the area.  Northern Edge Algonquin also offers all-inclusive Algonquin getaways. Bartlett Lodge in Algonquin offers the unique experience of platform tenting so you can camp in style in the great outdoors.  And finally - wildlife abounds in Algonquin; if you are planning for August or September, a wolf howl is an experience you won’t soon forget.
Ontario is known for its excellent wines & microbreweries & there are so many tours to learn about & taste both. The icewine season starts in January, so plan ahead to visit The Icehouse Winery, the only winery that exclusively makes icewine. You can become an icewine expert while sipping icewine slushies.  Or, join Inniskillin Winery ffor an extreme icewine adventure - learn about & experience how icewine is really made in the frigid weahter.  For a more in-depth education, visit the Niagara College Teaching Winery & Brewery, the only fully licensed teaching winery and teaching brewery  in Canada. For beer lovers, the Ontario Group of Touring Companies has some fabulous day & half-day tours in the GTA or Kitchener-Waterloo Region where you can learn all about the world of craft brewery – you’ll visit some award winning breweries & learn from the brewmasters.

Prince Edward County Wassail
This unique celebration is from the days of old when the harvest was celebrated before the coming of winter. In Prince Edward County, the festivities begin after the vines are harvested & buried for the winter frost. At that time, everyone can let loose & party!  Mulled wines are enjoyed with plenty of delicious comfort food.
