A Great Day Canoeing The Grand

A few weeks ago a friend of mine called and told me that he and his wife were coming into town and wanted to know if I was up to doing something “outdoorsy”. Usually I would make an excuse about it being too cold to be “outdoorsy” but with the mild spring we’ve had that excuse went out the window.
I was given the task of deciding what kind of nature adventure we would go on. Since I am not an avid outdoorsman I needed to do a little research to help me decide which activity would be the least painful. I took a look at Summer Fun Guide and saw Canoeing The Grand with daily canoe and hiking from Elora Gorge Park to Paris. I wasn’t sure about the hiking but a nice relaxing canoe trip sounded great. They have a shuttle service that brings you back to your car and to top it off there was a $5 off coupon!
My friends arrived a week later and we were off to Kitchener, Ontario for a canoeing adventure at Canoeing The Grand. We had decided to try the Breslau to Freeport route since it was “recommended for families” by Canoeing The Grand. It was a 10 KM trip that usually takes between 2 and 2 ½ hours. The guides at Canoeing The Grand did explain that we could take as long as we wanted as long as we were back by closing time at 6 p.m.
We did run into a bit of a problem because the canoes only carry 2 people and there were 3 of us, but this was our fault for not asking. My friend’s wife volunteered for the kayak and we were off.
The trip down the river was as advertised with scenic surroundings and calm as glass water. It took us about 2 ½ hours since we wanted to relax and take our time but if you were paddling faster you could easily make it in less than 2 hours.
For being an “outdoorsy” adventure I really enjoyed it. Part of it was the company, part of it was the great service at Canoeing The Grand, part of it was the great outdoors and all of it together made for a great trip.
Even if you don’t like outdoor adventures, give Canoeing The Grand a shot and you won’t be disappointed. Prices range from $49 per canoe to $129 per canoe for longer trips. Remember to use the $5 off coupon on SummerFunGuide.ca!
