However, that thinking is dead wrong! Ontario has loads of gorgeous beaches and some of them have charming, fun beach towns that have grown up around them. Here are just a few to visit.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-2020\" src=\"https:\/\/www.summerfunguide.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/article1june272019.jpg\" alt=\"what to do in Wasaga Beach\" width=\"257\" height=\"141\" \/><\/p>\n<h4>Wasaga Beach (Central)<\/h4>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.summerfunguide.ca\/companyprofile\/town-of-wasaga-beach-special-events.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wasaga Beach<\/a>\u00a0is the longest freshwater beach in the world with 14 km of safe, sandy shore and lots more. It has outstanding paddling routes on the Nottawasaga River, fishing, a ranch with horses and ziplines, mini golf,\u00a0 fabulous year round events like the Waterfront Festival, Giant Inflatable Festival, Main Street Market, Jazz in the Park, Summer Fireworks, Canada Day celebration &amp; more.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-2019\" src=\"https:\/\/www.summerfunguide.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/article2june272019.jpg\" alt=\"Sandbanks beach\" width=\"257\" height=\"141\" \/><\/p>\n<h4>Sandbanks (Eastern)<\/h4>\n<p>Sandbanks Provincial Park has the largest freshwater sand dunes in the world and 3 huge sandy beaches that are among the best in Canada. Because it is a provincial park, the only accommodations are camping and a couple of cottages. Most people stay in nearby places like Picton, a town incorporated in 1837. Picton has wineries, cideries and breweries, artisanal foods, the <a href=\"http:\/\/pictonfair.ca\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Picton Fair<\/a> &amp; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.summerfunguide.ca\/companyprofile\/31st-annual-picton-art-craft-sale-july-31.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Picton Art &amp; Craft Sale<\/a>, (Aug 1st, 9am-7pm) beautiful small inns and a lovely small town feel!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-2018\" src=\"https:\/\/www.summerfunguide.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/article3june272019.jpg\" alt=\"Sauble beach\" width=\"257\" height=\"141\" \/><\/p>\n<h4>Sauble Beach (SW)<\/h4>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.saublebeach.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Sauble Beach<\/a> means Beach of Sand (in French) and it is the 2nd largest freshwater beach in the world! The beach is located in the town of South Bruce Peninsula but a lot of the fun things to do are near the beach. There is an aerial park, arcade, gardens, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.saublespeedway.ca\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Sauble Speedway<\/a>, plus lots of festivals like the Sauble Beach Classic Car Show and Sauble Beach Sandfest. Don\u2019t forget about birding too \u2013 its home to the endangered Piping Plovers, small shorebirds that scurry along the water&#8217;s edge or nest on the beach.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-2017\" src=\"https:\/\/www.summerfunguide.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/article4june272019.jpg\" alt=\"beaches in Bayham\" width=\"257\" height=\"141\" \/><\/p>\n<h4>Bayham (SW)<\/h4>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.summerfunguide.ca\/companyprofile\/municipality-of-bayham.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bayham<\/a> has stunning beaches but while you\u2019re there, take advantage of other things to do as it has lots of options. It has several unique family festivals (EdisonFest\/Canada Day\/Beachfest\/Watermelon Fest), tours of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hmcsojibwa.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">HMCS Ojibwa<\/a>, Canada\u2019s first Oberon Class submarine, birdwatching, fishing, boating, cycling\/hiking trails, an 1840 Historic Lighthouse, and more. Don\u2019t miss eating Lake Erie perch served at a local restaurant too!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-2016\" src=\"https:\/\/www.summerfunguide.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/article5june272019.jpg\" alt=\"beaches in Mattawa\" width=\"257\" height=\"141\" \/><\/p>\n<h4>Mattawa (Northern)<\/h4>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/papineaucameron.ca\/regionalattractions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Mattawa<\/a> has beautiful sandy beaches but it is also a place for year-round adventure. From VMUTS, Mattawa\u2019s world class 300 km multi-use trail system, to wilderness outfitters for canoe tripping, to lakes and sunsets, Mattawa is a destination for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.summerfunguide.ca\/northern-ontario\/outdoor-adventures.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">outdoor activities<\/a>. You can learn about the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.summerfunguide.ca\/companyprofile\/lock-7-viewing-complex-thorold.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Welland Canal<\/a> and watch ships pass through one of the world\u2019s longest canal locks. Visit the century old farmers\u2019 market and maker\u2019s market, take a trail ride in the woods and quarries of Wainfleet Wetland CA.
