The end of the current Ontario-wide lockdown is in sight, so we\u2019ve put a list together of cool destinations that are within a 2-hour drive of Toronto for you. Ontario is filled with amazing and unique places to visit, and lucky for people from Toronto \u2013 much of them are only a few hours\u2019 drive away.\u00a0 When you\u2019re writing up your Summer 2021 post-lockdown bucket list make sure to include some of these Ontario gems.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Eastern Ontario \u2013 Prince Edward County<\/h4>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-2996\" src=\"https:\/\/www.summerfunguide.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/Screen-Shot-2021-05-31-at-9.07.18-AM.png\" alt=\"Sand dunes\" width=\"263\" height=\"137\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Eastern Ontario is full of incredibly beautiful places, and so much to do. Places like Prince Edward County have been blowing up recently with an influx of cool new motels like the popular Instagram girls trip spot &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/thejunemotel.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">The June Motel &amp; Lakeside Motel<\/a> with its dreamy waterfront pool.\u00a0 Prince Edward County is Ontario\u2019s fastest growing wine region with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.princeedwardcountywine.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">30+ cool wineries<\/a> to visit.\u00a0 If it\u2019s nature you\u2019re after, Sandbanks Provincial Park is known for its picturesque sand dunes and sandy beaches. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ontarioparks.com\/park\/sandbanks\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Sandbanks Provincial Park<\/a> is the largest freshwater sand bar and dune system in North America. Eastern Ontario is also home to the stunning 1000 islands along the St. Lawrence River between Canada and USA. From Kingston (about 2.5 hours from Toronto), you can take a boat trip along the St. Lawrence River with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1000islandscruises.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">1000 Island Kingston Cruises<\/a> to see the islands from a beautiful and unique viewpoint.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Eastern Ontario (Gananoque)<\/h4>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-2997\" src=\"https:\/\/www.summerfunguide.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/Screen-Shot-2021-05-31-at-9.07.25-AM.png\" alt=\"Restaurant and dock at sunset\" width=\"260\" height=\"140\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Just past Prince Edward County, between Kingston and Toronto is the unassuming town of Gananoque situated right on the St. Lawrence River. This small town is a popular tourist stopover because of its entry point to the 1000 islands. Visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tiboatmuseum.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">1000 Islands Boat Museum<\/a> along the waterfront, shop at <a href=\"https:\/\/steelstylegarage.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Steel Style Garage<\/a> for some stylish new threads, and have a bite worthy of any foodie at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.laverneseatery.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Laverne\u2019s Eatery<\/a> patio. This little town is so picturesque, it\u2019s worth stopping just to walk around and take in its charm.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Niagara Region (Niagara Falls)<\/h4>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-2998\" src=\"https:\/\/www.summerfunguide.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/Screen-Shot-2021-05-31-at-9.07.34-AM.png\" alt=\"person zip lining over a waterfall\" width=\"258\" height=\"133\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Niagara Falls is an international tourist destination and draw to Canada, so you shouldn\u2019t miss out on all it has to offer \u2013 especially if you are coming from Toronto which is only about an hour and a half drive away.\u00a0 Besides the obvious draw of the actual Falls \u2013 imagine dangling 220 ft above ground facing the Canadian and American falls on the Niagara <a href=\"https:\/\/www.niagarafallstourism.com\/play\/falls-experiences\/wildplay-zipline-to-the-falls\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Wildplay Zipline<\/a>! Or check out hundreds of birds at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.niagarafallstourism.com\/tickets\/bird-kingdom-14715\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Bird Kingdom<\/a>, the world\u2019s largest free-flying indoor aviary. There are tons of top tier dining and accommodation options, like <a href=\"https:\/\/brasaniagara.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Brasa Brazilian Steakhouse<\/a> for food and a show if you want to turn it into a weekend getaway.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Southwestern Ontario (Waterloo, Elora)<\/h4>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-2999\" src=\"https:\/\/www.summerfunguide.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/Screen-Shot-2021-05-31-at-9.07.42-AM.png\" alt=\"Ariel picture of a quarry\" width=\"259\" height=\"139\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Southwestern Ontario is chock full of hidden gems. <a href=\"https:\/\/stjacobsmarket.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">St. Jacobs Market<\/a> is a flea market and farmers market near Waterloo and it\u2019s the largest year-round Farmers Market in Canada drawing $1M visitors a year. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ontarioparks.com\/park\/longpoint\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Long Point Provincial Park<\/a> offers a stunning 1.5 KM sandy beach in the warm waters of Lake Erie where visitors can camp, swim, fish and enjoy the water. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grandriver.ca\/en\/outdoor-recreation\/Elora-Gorge.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Elora Gorge Conservation Area<\/a> is another fun summer destination, where visitors can tube down the Grand River surrounded by 70 ft high limestone cliffs, or swim in the \u2018old swimming hole\u2019, a former limestone quarry. Take your pick water-lovers!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Central Ontario (Wasaga Beach &amp; Blue Mountain)<\/h4>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-3000\" src=\"https:\/\/www.summerfunguide.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/Screen-Shot-2021-05-31-at-9.07.49-AM.png\" alt=\"Boadwalk and beach\" width=\"260\" height=\"137\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Visit the shores of North America\u2019s longest freshwater beach, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wasagabeach.com\/en\/index.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Wasaga Beach<\/a>. This summer tourist hot-spot offers up a beautiful seaweed-free swim on those hot summer days. If you\u2019re looking for a night out, the nearby <a href=\"https:\/\/bluemountainvillage.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Blue Mountain Village<\/a> has tons of delicious dining options &amp; shopping. <a href=\"https:\/\/treetoptrekking.com\/park\/barrie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Treetop Trekking Zipline Aerial Parks<\/a> has 5 locations to choose from in Ontario (Barrie, Hamilton, Ganaraska, Stouville, and Huntsville). There, you can get an adrenaline rush on a zipline, at the aerial parks or even take part in a GPS rally. All of this in under 2 hours away from Toronto.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Niagara Region (Niagara-on-the-lake)<\/h4>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-3001\" src=\"https:\/\/www.summerfunguide.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/Screen-Shot-2021-05-31-at-9.07.55-AM.png\" alt=\"Winery and green field of grass at sunset\" width=\"259\" height=\"141\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Niagara-on-the-lake is Ontario\u2019s best known wine region. You could make a day of wine-tasting at a few of the 50 wineries they have to offer. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.peller.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Peller Estates<\/a> has a very romantic restaurant overlooking the vineyards to get a real feel for the wine region, or ice wine-tasting in their -10-degree ice lounge. For thrill seekers, take a <a href=\"https:\/\/whirlpooljet.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">jet boat tour<\/a> on the Niagara River through the rapids (prepare to get soaked!). Niagara-on-the-lake is also known for its spas and inns like the 5-star 19th century <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vintage-hotels.com\/pillar-and-post\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Pillar &amp; Post<\/a> with its luxurious yet charming building.
