I have never been fond of reptiles and amphibians, but I decided to face my fears. Reptilia is a 25,000 sq. ft. indoor reptile zoo located in Vaughan, Ontario, near Toronto.

The kids and I walked through a maze of glass-enclosed tanks that displayed reptiles from around the world, and we were amazed by an American Alligator feeding during our visit. The zoo has daily, scheduled feedings for various creatures and an hourly theatre show performed by zoo staff members. We saw an interesting amphibian show, and we even touched a lumpy toad!

The zoo has a huge gift shop that features animals and tanks for sale and provides educational toys for young science explorers.

My kids loved seeing the animals and discovering the venomous creatures. They were thrilled to pay $1.00 to feed turtles up close and to see eggs of the next generation of reptiles. At the end of the exhibits, located before the entrance to the theatre show, we saw a gigantic alligator (or crocodile!). He was asleep during our visit, but he was worth it!

The zoo can be booked for birthday parties, camp, and education programs. Visitors can even take a phobia course!

The visit took us about an hour to complete, and it cost $10.00 for each child (4-12 years old) to enter. Adults enter for $15.00.

If you like Animals, Wildlife, Birds, Safaris or even Petting Zoos, you’ll find many more wonderful places to visit, both indoor and outdooor in the Animals & Zoos category on Summer Fun Guide. Find out more about Reptilia at http://www.reptilia.org.

By Robin Rakowsky

Robin Rakowsky is a happily married mom of two, a Librarian, and a writer.
