The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.summerfunguide.ca\/niagara-region\/wineries-microbreweries.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Niagara region<\/a> is still the backbone of Ontario wines with &gt;45 wineries in the Niagara Escarpment &amp; Twenty Valley area and another 35 in NOTL, but <a href=\"http:\/\/www.summerfunguide.ca\/eastern-ontario\/wineries-microbreweries.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Prince Edward County<\/a> has developed a region to be proud of with 14 wineries (&amp; growing) and award winning varietals. The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.summerfunguide.ca\/southwestern-ontario\/wineries-microbreweries.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lake Erie North Shore<\/a> (with 11) built on its roots as the home of Ontario\u2019s first commercial winery and continues to rank too. Three that stand out are: a group close to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.summerfunguide.ca\/greater-toronto-area\/wineries-microbreweries.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Toronto<\/a>, in Newmarket and Stouffville mostly, a second group in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.summerfunguide.ca\/southwestern-ontario\/wineries-microbreweries.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Norfolk County<\/a>\u00a0 and a third in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.summerfunguide.ca\/central-ontario\/wineries-microbreweries.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Georgian Bay<\/a> area. Things have changed! Now, the craft beer industry rivals the wine industry; in fact, because beer doesn\u2019t need to cultivate vines, it takes fewer resources and lots less land, so new <a href=\"http:\/\/www.summerfunguide.ca\/wineries-microbreweries.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">craft breweries<\/a> are popping up everywhere. Beer tasting has become as sophisticated as wine tasting, with flights of beer paired with elegant meals. Beer is not just for hotdogs anymore! We found a pretty interesting discussion of the types of beer and what kinds of foods they go with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.splendidtable.org\/story\/the-7-flavor-categories-of-beer-what-they-are-how-to-pair-them\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">here<\/a>, but really, the best thing is just to keep tasting new ones every chance you get. Some tours can be found in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.summerfunguide.ca\/sightseeing-tours.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sightseeing Tours<\/a> category and some in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.summerfunguide.ca\/wineries-microbreweries.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">wineries and breweries<\/a> one, so check both. A tour is where you not only learn things like \u201cin PEC, Lake Ontario and Bay of Quinte\u2019s moderating effects, combined with breezes and loose, stony soils produce wines with very concentrated flavours\u201d but also to taste those wines. It is very cool to taste how wines from wineries next door to one another can taste so different! And beers are the same. Brewers come from all over the world and bring different techniques and flavor additives and timings to make beers that are split into categories such as crisp, hop, malt, roast, smoke, fruit and spice, and tart and funky. Wouldn\u2019t you like to try a funky beer?? Take a tour and compare!<\/p>\n<p>Beer and wine are both great to have around to toast the holidays or any special occasion (as long as you drink responsibly and DON\u2019T DRIVE), so now is the time to add some new bottles to your bar. Book a wine or beer tour or head to your nearest winery or microbrewery and arrange a tasting. And don\u2019t forget that Ontario also has spirit distilleries, cideries and even its own local Sake distiller too! Head out to one of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.summerfunguide.ca\/wineries-microbreweries.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ontario\u2019s wine regions<\/a> and make a weekend getaway of it.
