Tom Thomson Art Gallery

The Tom Thomson Art Gallery is dedicated to the innovation and spirit of iconic artist Tom Thomson, strongly identified with the Group of Seven whose images are virtually synonymous with the very idea of ‘Canada.’ Our national identity is forged and fortified by our awareness and understanding of historical figures like Thomson, whose artwork has been described as being the “visual equivalent of our national anthem.”

As a regional gallery with a national mandate, the TOM serves many different communities and audiences. This means that our programming includes local, provincial, national and international artists, contemporary and historic fine art, fine craft and Neo-Craft art works, and art projects created by community based groups. As the only fine arts museum in the region we are aware of and responsive to the range of audience that we bring in. Through our exhibitions, publications and touring shows, the TOM makes significant contributions to the national dialogue around contemporary Canadian art. We consistently produce exhibitions which tour provincially, nationally and internationally. A key association with Thomson is, of course, nature and the environment.

Exhibitions, lectures, forums, films, concerts & workshops for young & old.

The TOM's award-winning educational programmes foster a life-long enjoyment and appreciation of art and its creation using a variety of interpretive techniques, both traditional and innovative. Exhibitions are accompanied by informative materials and tours are conducted by trained guides. Interactive displays, demonstrations and new technologies enable us to reach new audiences in exciting ways, showcasing the art of today and influencing the art of tomorrow.
