Out of the Ordinary Animals

Going to the zoo is always a sure bet for weekend fun, but where do you go if you’re on a first-name basis with the bears by now? Have no fear, animal-lovers, because we’ve got some great new ideas! All over the province, you can find zoos and animal habitats that house some very unique creatures.

Here are a couple of them to get you going:

Little Ray’s Reptile Zoo (Ottawa Region)

Jungle Cat World Zoological Park (GTA)

This spot is one of Canada’s largest reptile and amphibian rescue centres. There are over 250 animals on display, including Giant Pythons, Huge Alligators, Cobras, Rattlesnakes, Tarantulas, Marmosets and more.

This unique spot is not only a wildlife park, but also a B&B! You can spend the day at the zoo, and those who stay overnight get special access to explore at twilight and see the nocturnal animals out and about.

Blue Willow Butterflies & Blooms Butterfly Conservatory (Central Ontario)

Salem Alpacas Farm (Central Ont)

You’ll marvel at the number of beauties found in this conservatory. And even better, you’ll pick up tips and learn how to make your own habitat butterfly-friendly.

This farm is home to 30 of the softest animals you can imagine: huyaca alpacas. These gentle giants are lots of fun to watch, and their non-allergenic fleece is luxuriously warm and cuddly.

Over the next few weeks, get out of your animal comfort zone, and visit a specialized zoo or two. We promise you’ll have a fantastic time—and if your family suddenly decides to adopt a deadly python, we’ll come to you for a visit!
