Situated on the north shore of Lake Huron, Fort St. Joseph was once a remote but thriving community and the base for the first British military maneuver against the United States in the War of 1812. Now, over 200 years later, step back in time and immerse yourself in the rich history and culture of this remarkable site. Fort St. Joseph is open for the season. Come and explore the ruins of Fort St. Joseph National Historic Site and discover the powerful alliance between the British, fur trade companies, and the First Nations People of the western Great Lakes region.

Activities and Experiences

From now until September, enjoy a variety of engaging outdoor and historical activities including:
- Hiking or cycling to Lake Huron’s edge on four trails of varying lengths and difficulty
- Renting a fat bike for an exciting way to explore the grounds
- Experiencing heritage demonstrations that bring history to life
- Firing a Flintlock Musket (reservations required) for an authentic historical experience
- Birdwatching with over 200 species to spot
- Viewing authentic artifacts from the old fort

NEW! Canada Strong Pass

As part of the Canada Strong Pass, the Government of Canada is offering free admission to national parks, national historic sites, and national marine conservation areas operated by Parks Canada from June 20th, 2025 to September 2nd, 2025 inclusive.
