Description
Radiant is a collection of paintings presented by the Canadian Glaze Oil Society (CGOS). So named for the glowing effect the technique brings to oil painting. This traditional approach to painting was developed in the Renaissance. It consists applying multiple layers of transparent paint and white to the piece until the desired effect is reached. The result can create a sensation of depth into the flat surface and a glowing intensity of colour when compared to other oil painting methods. Members of the CGOS represented in this show, all practice the principles of this technique. Its versatility allows for a wide variety of vision. Glazing with oils lends itself to still life, landscape, figurative work extraordinarily well. This exhibit demonstrates how the application of this traditional technique in the hands of contemporary artists can bring a heightened sense of beauty and reality to our modern world. At the Leslie Grove Gallery Aug 6-17. Gallery hours open Wednesday to Sunday 12-5 PM. Opening reception will take place Saturday, August 9th, 1-4 pm.
